Cambodia borders Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam in the southeastern part of Asia (click here to view map). Before 1970 Cambodia was fairly rich in natural and agricultural resources. Cambodia, unlike most Southeast Asian countries, enjoyed a stable export business and shipped rice, rubber, coal, and cotton worldwide. Many people lived in small villages near waterways, the majority working in agriculture. Traditionally, high status was given only to Buddhist monks and important government officials. Traditional values included a strong family identity, respect for ancestors and the past and a desire for smooth interpersonal relationships, i.e., nonconfrontational in disagreement, tolerance for ambiguity, and willingness to accept things the way they were (Kinzie, Fredrickson, Ben, Fleck and Karls, 1984).

We are an organization based in Phnom Penh in Cambodia. We began as a group of Cambodian volunteers trying to make a difference within our communities. We work for a few non-governmental organizations (NGOs) which helps to run, develop and maintain orphanages in the City and support to the poor within the country.
We aim to
-
provide links and support for potential volunteers anywhere in Phnom Penh and other provinces,
-
build and maintain links with a wide variety of groups that benefit from volunteers,
-
help volunteers gain valuable work experience and knowledge of the Khmer culture,
-
through our volunteer network provide sustainable support and help for the Cambodian (Khmer) people,
-
organize a safe and enjoyable stay for our volunteers in Cambodia.
Khmer-V works with volunteers from all over the world, especially those who would love to work with Cambodian schools, educational projects, conservation projects, orphanages and other similar organizations. Our idea is to use the volunteers previous work experience, culture and energy and skills to develop and share new and fresh ideas with the Cambodian people. Khmer-V is designed primarily for college students, recent graduates and committed tourists, though there is no age limit to volunteering!
Khmer-V works together with dozens of partner schools, institutes, conservation projects, orphanages and other organizations in Cambodia. We are associated with local and international NGOs, private companies, and private or organizational schools in the country. Depending on the Volunteer’s interests, placements are possible in many different fields, such as English Teaching, University Lecturing, HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention, Youth Rehabilitation, Health/Dentistry, Women and Child Issues, Advocacy, and Community Development.
