Introduction

Cambodia's national language is Khmer. It belongs to the Mon-Khmer language family. Most of those languages are spoken within Asia in countries such as Vietnam, Lao and Thailand. It is one of the few languages of that family that enjoys a written form and a literary tradition.

The language sounds likely difficult to any European language; therefore, the Romanisation system can offer only an approximation of the sounds and pronunciations of the language.

You will developm your own strategies for learning the language, as there are many ways of Romanising Khmer words. In this site, you do not need to be familiar with the phonetic symbols, the system of transcription used is intended to represent the Khmer language as simpley as possible for the English speaker.

Also there are some pictures to show and relate to the lesson on the site.
